Got a 99 4 wheel drive S10 Vortec

All it does is crank over I've checked everything
replaced fuel pump replaced fuel filter crank
sensor can the control module make it want to
start but not want to and make it backfire

Timing chain possibly . grab the pulley and turn crank back and forth you will feel the slack in chain ? What year
Check the distributor pick up coil and module take cap off and turn crank back and forth see how much crank turns to distinguish if there's a delay in movement of distributor rotor
Wiggle coolant temp sensor connector and check grounds on engine thermostat housing
