Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I just recently bought the car and its a nice car. I drove it for two weeks
then one day the clutch pedal began sticking to the floor. you would let off
of it a bit and it would stick for a bit then pop up. the same day I caught a
whiff of a burning smell and looked up to see some smoke coming from
under the hood on the drivers side. I made it to work and parked the car
and everything seemed to be normal. Later that night I went to leave for
home and with the clutch fully released and the gas pedal to the floor I
barely reached 15mph. then I shifted into 2nd like normal and attempted to
go up a hill. at that point the motor was going and the gas pedal was
floored and it was in gear but it was rolling backwards... Not sure if its the
clutch or tranny or a combination of both. Did have trouble since day one
with getting the car to go into first gear...

If you have ben revving the engine like you say, the clutch is burnt up on her now. Everything will have to be pulled down and, replaced, clutch disk, pressure plate, throwout bearing, the flywheel would need to be ground flat, and all other components inspected.

The engine wasn't revved very much at all, maybe about thirty seconds before i realized i was rolling back and i stopped and shut the car off. hasn't been started since and that was three weeks ago

You have clutch problems, something causing the disk to slip. The disk is definitely gone which drives the car, since it has ben slipping. Get it to a shop for repair if you can not do it yourself.
