so after just buying this car the only issue i have is half the time i cant shift to first. i took off the stick cover and realized that there was massive dust build up on the ball joint. i got most of the dust off but some fell into the ball joint so its still stiff im just wondering how do i clean it out or should i used something to lubricate the shifter???

just spray something in- more than likely it won't be that easy, but who knows? the linkage could be bent or out of adjustment- is it a cable? or frighteningly, the synchros could be going out in the trans axle- happy halloween
to add to jamnblues answer, I think he hit the nail on the head. The synchros in the trany could be going bad, best to have it looked at by a professional trany guy or girl, & get an opinion. If it is the problem it can be taken care of easy enough, but it would be the labor cost...
Try checking the oil level in the transmission and changing the oil. Add some Lucas transmission oil additive while you are at it.
i just bought the car from a mechanic who owns his own shop so everything has been just changed and replaced. the car drives beautiful and smooth the only issue is shifting into first gear. i have to start in 2nd to get it to slide into first sometimes.. i used some wd40 and its smoother for sure but still kinda finicky with first..
Since you just bought the car from a mechanic, should see what he says about the shifting since he will know of this. Might be that the clutch pedal may just need adjusting...
I am having the same issue mine was funky and 1st and now 1st 2nd 4th and reverse are all hard to get into. I can drive but mainly have to use third and fifth unless I really tried to wiggle it into first. I'm hoping I just broke something minor because it all happened trying to slap it into fourth being tight
