Pick up wont start but lights & radio work

Asked by Danielle Aug 18, 2021 at 11:15 AM about the 2000 Chevrolet S-10 LS Xtreme Extended Cab Stepside RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My husband S10
wont turn over but
lights and radio work.
He had lost key to
truck several months
ago so he had
bypassed the ignition
and wired the ignition
to a toggle switch.
This worked without
issue up until 2 nights
ago when he was
trying to put a wire
back on the switch
and it had created
this huge spark. It ran
fine for about an hour
when he went back to
make surs the wires
are secured Into
place on the toggle
switch the truck
wouldnt start but he
has light radio and
climate controls. He
thought maybe the
sparked weakened
the battery so we left
hooked up to a
battery charger but
that didnt help at all
still had the same
issue of it not
starting . What could
be the issue

The issue is that someone f'd up things. Hard to say what. Could be a security system issue or the wiring. Test the alternator and battery.

if a huge spark, check all fuses for blown out ones. hopefully just that ; not a fried computer.
