After Replacing Regulater and Spider MP Injectors I have very rough idle

Asked by rduzac Aug 02, 2015 at 07:37 PM about the 2001 Chevrolet S-10 Extended Cab RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I did the whole job. Replaced the Intake Gaskets, Valve Cover Gaskets,
Plugs/Rotor/Plugs, Spider Assembly w/new Regulator. I had to go back into the system
to replace the Regulator/Spider assembly because after putting it back together the first
time it was just spitting gas out the exhaust.

When I got it complete "Again" it was running great  (~700 RPM Idle), Started on a
dime, Accelerated great, but was billowing white smoke out the exhaust from the
previous gas problem. About the time the white smoke went away it started to idle
rough to the point it died. I can only keep it running now by stepping on the gas.

My question, could the gas from previous problem have clogged the Catalytic
Converter. I've heard that gas can ruin them.

Thanks for any help.

Hey, Yes indeed gas can ruin your catalytic converter and it might be you need to buy a new one for your car to start. Another problem could be that your carburator is clogged up and needs to be cleaned. That's all i thinks so.. Bye

An '01 S-10 with a carburetor? I don't think so 458. And gas..unburnt gas...is black smoke.

It's definitely not a carb :-), And I do know for sure that the white smoke is not Water/Antifreeze. It's most definitely unburned gas. One check I will do when I get the energy again it to disconnect the exhaust before the Catalytic converter. See if it idles. Can it ruin the Catalytic converter that fast?
