2001 4.3 S10 cranking issues

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2001 4.3 S10 Ext. cab 4x4 5-speed manual.

Its sporadic. Sometimes, I can hop in it, hit the switch, and fires right up.
Other times, I have to crank on it for around 30 seconds before it starts.
Checked fuel pressure, KOEO jumps to 62 psi. KO, drops to around 58 and
holds there. Slowly drops down, after 15 minutes its still holding around 50.
Holds around 55psi with engine running, jumps to a little over 60 when I blip
the throttle.

Has new ignition coil, fuel pump/filter, replaced complete distributor about a
year. Plugs/wires have been recent. New spider a little over a year ago.

I've cycled the key ON/OFF but that doesn't seem to make a difference
either way.

I'm at a loss. Because of it being so sporadic on starting, i've not been able
to check spark. I may hop in it and it run normal for 10 times, then out of the
blue, it cranks forever it feels like.

The truck idles good and runs smooth down the road with plenty of power.

Any suggestions??

Hello, thanks for the reply. Yes it does have a distributor, replaced complete about a year ago. Now thats not saying something has gone bad, just that everything was new about a year ago. Also, this distributor uses a Camshaft Position Sensor (CMPS) and doesn't have the HEI module like older 262 V6's did. I first thought maybe the CMPS was the culprit but have no CEL or codes stored. Also compared temps with gauge in truck to my scan tool, they are very close to each other and about what I felt they should be after driving a short distance then letting sit for about an hour.
