s10 v8 swap

Asked by Jimmy Oct 06, 2018 at 11:04 PM about the 2003 Chevrolet S-10 LS Extended Cab RWD

Question type: Car Customization

if i swap a 5.3 into my s10 which has the 4.3L v6. would i need to rebuild the transmission?. I'm
asking because my coworkers were like: since you doing a v8 swap you'll need to rebuild the
transmission so you don't blow it with the power. and I'm thinking i won't need to because the
4.3 is basically a 350. the 5.3 is basically a 305 and my trans is the 5 speed by the way. anyway
please let me know

I wouldn't imagine that you would need to rebuild the transmission. The 4.3 has a good amount of power and torque itself so the transmission should be fine as long as you aren't trying to break it haha. The only problem I could see you having with that kind of engine swap is redoing all electrical and computer related things.
