I'm having trouble with my 2003 S-10 ignition and key, Please help.

Asked by Jake Mar 22, 2014 at 03:25 PM about the 2003 Chevrolet S-10 LS RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The truck starts up and shuts off fine it's
just when you turn it off the key doesn't
want to come out of the ignition, we thought
it had something to do with the tires having
to be straight because we seemed to have
been able to take the key out more when
the tires are turned straight ahead, I have
no idea what to do, We can occasionally
take it out but not regularly.

Sounds like your ignition switch its wearing out. The next time you're able to pull the key out, spray WD-40 inside the switch, then jog the key in and out.. There may be some tumblers getting hung up inside.

Another thing to try is: There may be pressure on the ignition switch.. Here's what to do.... "GRAB THE STEERING WHEEL AND TURN IT RIGHT OR LEFT (AS THIS WILL RELEASE THE PRESSURE) AND TURN THE KEY AND REMOVE IT." Let us know if this works, OK?
