Hesitates while at driving speeds

Engine hesitates while driving and backfires sometimes; good at idle and already replaced
bad distributor cap but didn't help.

i own a 2.6 liter ram 50 that had a junk carb. that we replaced, before replacing, it idled right, but when driving, in second gear or higher, it wouldnt let you accelerate past about 3 thousand rpms. after replacing the carb. it drove like a champ. i would recommend checking into a new carb.

with a 92 you wouldent have a carb dodge went to fuel injection in 88 you would however have throttle body fuel injection so a throttle body rebuild might help
