If you are a back yard mechanic the trick here is to be patent and just know that it isnt as had as it seems. First. make sure you arent waisting your time. I mean , just because you have a code for a EGR doesnt mean the egr is bad. Emissions repair is tricky. Pluss when you have a parts store that offeras the use of a scanner free as long as you buy the parts needed from their stor , It is always a big can of worms. So if you thyink you have an egr issue. You will need a hand hekld vacume pump with a guage.. You can get a cheap one at harbor freaght. Okay. Next you have to pull the hose going to the nipple on top of the egr . Then connect the hase from the vacume pump to the egr. Start the truck. Start pumping the pump until the motor starts to stumble. If it does then the egr is okay. Toh next step is tricky. I advise you to go on you tube and watch on of the many vidieos on how to chchck the vacume and elecrical componets. Note, when I pull a egr off of this type of truck , I remove the two bolts from the hood and then loosen the two rear bolts. This allows the hood to be lifted higher so you can easly see the bolts . Good luck..
