1996 dodge ram shuts off going down interstate

Asked by Tidefan903 Dec 20, 2016 at 11:05 PM about the 1996 Dodge RAM 1500 ST Club Cab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Ok. Have,a 1996 dodge ram. I have replaced map
sensor, fuel pump, tps, idle air valve, fuel injectors,
computer, coil. I can be driving down interstate or
at low speed and just randomly shut off.
Sonetimes start right back up sometimes not.
Today noticed when it shut off sounded like a
backfire in keg. Small but noticable. Truck has a
little bit of irregularity in idle.  Small surge up and
down.  Lacks power on hills.  Oh and I did a
Hughes plenium repair so shouldn't be problem.
Still have a little bit of crazy vents only when
driving but hAve traced all lines and found no leak
under hood or on 4x4 setup.  At a loss right now.
Any help?

You might want to test the crank sensor, a loss of signal from that can cause the engine to shut off, not to mention the rough/uneven idle: http://troubleshootmyvehicle.com/chrysler/3.9L-5.2L-5.9L/crank-sensor-test-1
