1997 dodge ram stalls during idle

I recently purchased a 97
dodge ram 1500 5.9 4x4.  I
put a new battery in it and it
ran fine.  Now when it idles
down at a stop sign it dies.  
The truck has dual strait
pipes, no cats no mufflers
wondering if that could be
the problem

have the alternator checked at auto zone. I think they still do it for free

My truck is doing the same thing but I was told it has to do with the transmission electrical.Something with the torque convertor .It shifts funny when I am getting on it and sometimes when I come to a stop it will stall.I am taking it in to a tranny shop soon to have them scan the computer in the trans.
