97 dodge tranny issues

Asked by Zach Aug 19, 2018 at 11:17 PM about the 1997 Dodge RAM 1500 Laramie SLT Club Cab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 97 Dodge Ram 1500 with the 318 and it
seems to be in limp mode. I have no power until
higher speeds. I unhooked my vaccume lines under
the transfer case to disable the front diff and put it
in 4 low and I had plenty of power right off the bat.
But in 2 high feels like I’m starting off in 3rd gear.
I’ve never messed with a tranny so I don’t know
what to check.

That’s what I thought, I checked every line and all was well. I’m hoping it’s the pressure governor and shift solenoid which are apparently very common for the 46re. Guess we will see
