Have a problem with my rear differential

Wondering why and how the damage to my
differential has occurred...  never have seen not
heard of the damage happening

1998 Dodge Ram If it been leaking, or used hard abused, towing or has a lot of miles or OVER sized tires or ODD mismatched tires. It's NOT uncommon. usually does a transmission too!

I can't answer what caused the cross pin to elongate the hole. we need the American Axle Manufacturing engineer to to reply or a differential expert. I'm sure you can research and find the cause. Regards

The cause could be anything. Was there any moisture or water in the lubricant. Were any of the parts inside the differential rusty or brown? Does this truck have over-sized tires? Has the lubricant in the rear gear ever been changed?
