What is the problem?

While turning into a road, my 2001 1500 LS 4 x 4 Suburban quit engaging
drive. Tried all fwd gears and 4 x 4 only reverse worked. I know no service
history of this vehicle, only the it has 198 k

Sounds like the shift solenoids could be bad, as well as it could be the transfer case position sensor. It hard to tell if no codes are showing and no repair history. May just need a transmission fluid and filter change....

  • My 1990 Chevrolet Suburban 1500 transmission slips and will not achieve passing gear. The problem is worse when cold. The fluid is fine. What can be wrong? 1 Answer

    It has 190,000 miles and runs great aside from the transmission. It was replaced 5 years ago with a re-built transmission. I drive it normally about 60 miles a day.
