What is the problem?

While turning into a road, my 2001 1500 LS 4 x 4 Suburban quit engaging
drive. Tried all fwd gears and 4 x 4 only reverse worked. I know no service
history of this vehicle, only the it has 198 k

Sounds like the shift solenoids could be bad, as well as it could be the transfer case position sensor. It hard to tell if no codes are showing and no repair history. May just need a transmission fluid and filter change....
