Will a tranny from 2wd dodge ram work in a 4wd?

If they are the same transmission "bodies" (not sure of Dodge's transmission description so please bare with me). Example : A Chevy TH350 2wd and 4wd transmission configuration have the same "main case" BUT the 2wd has a tail shaft housing and the 4wd has the transfer case attached, while the output shafts are of different lengths and designs as well.
