my son has a 99 dodge 4x4 1/2 ton, he has been experincing sliping in the shifting for awhile. then he was leaving for work and when he put the truck in reverse a very loud noise was heard and the truck stalled. now as soon asyou put it in reverse it stalls, but if you put in a foward gear it dosent stall andwill move. any thoughts will be app. thank you

Once a transmission starts slipping, the clutch packs are burnt and worn. Since he is not experiencing loud noises and not engaging reverse, it is time for a rebuild or replacement.
