what would cause a O2 sensor say its not getting enough gas on a 1999 dodge ram 1500

the truck is sputtering at times & its blowing black out the tailpipe (which i understand it is
burning oil).  it started not wanting to start.

The O2 sensor is played out. Do your self a favor. Replace all of them at the same time.

Agree with boholmark,all so if it is burning oil,may not hurt to change your plug,s and add some oil fouler,s to help prevent plug,s from fouling out from the oil.

Black smoke is unburnt hydrocarbons GAS --white or white/blue tint is oil ..it's running very rich, the 02 sensor is not sending the correct data to the ECU to set fuel/air trim ...a 14 year old sensor may be simply worn out

how many O2 sensors are there on this truck? where are they located?

http://www.cargurus.com/Cars/Discussion-t13693_ds606428#msg364966 ...............I just went through all that on a Dodge it only has two if you have the 5.2 one upstream and one downstream. It may also be stuck in open loop

I have a 02 dodge ram 1500 pickup, two wheel drive, 4.7 ltr. engine. The engine light is on and individual codes I got from the MVD this morning we're P0037,P0138, P1491, Can anybody help me? How many sensors are on this pickup?
