What part of my transfer case is bad?

Asked by DWelsh718 Feb 11, 2015 at 09:59 AM about the 1999 Dodge RAM 1500 ST Club Cab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I drive a 99 dodge ram 1500 5.2L and
the transfer case has started scaring
me. After the truck warms up, my
transfer case will go from 2H to
neutral when I slow down or stop. The
sound is loud and terrible. It does it
almost randomly when I stop, not
everytime. If I hold back the shifter it
usually prevents it or stops it as its
happening. A few months ago, I
accidentally knocked it from 2h into
neutral while driving. Could this be a
directly caused by that event? What
part of my transfer case likely needs
changing? Thankyou
*Also, I am changing out a bad
pressure sensor and solenoid in my
transmission due to shifting problems
that started before the transfer case
issue. Could this have caused a T
case issue? Could this be causing it.

Have you checked the fluid level in the transfer case?
