How do I fix the rear audio in my recently purchased 2001 Suburban?

For starters, let's go over how the system works, the main "brain" of the audio system is the front head unit. the rear unit only disengages the rear four speakers when it is "on" (engaged to headphone mode), however, the signal for the rear speakers travels through it, so if it is mising, no signal will get to those speakers. The rear unit also sends a signal to the front unit to dampen the sub when it is engaged. I would replace the front AND rear door speakers, which is an easy job, just google how to replace them and there will be step by step instructions (I believe they are 6 3/4" round speakers). Then either find a way to jump the harness on the rear unit to get a signal to the rear speakers, or just repalce the unit and all should be well.

Can you bypass the passenger rear unit to get sound out of the back speaker on a 2001 chevy suburban or do you have to replace the unit?

Stereo shop bypassed my factory amplifier. Works great now.
