99 ram 1500 5.9 high idle
Asked by GuruC58B2 Feb 06, 2019 at 07:51 PM about the 1999 Dodge RAM 1500 ST Quad Cab 4WD
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I bought the truck and it wouldn't idle at all
hardly so I replaced the iac. Idles now but
was way too high. On average around 1100
to 1200 in park. And 900 to 1000 in gear.
Also replaced the tps after I got a check
engine light for it but no change in idle. Every
once in a while it will idle normal but it is very
very rare.

Scan again and make sure you got all the codes fixed. Look for a massive vacuum leak at the intake manifold and all hoses. Then disconnect the battery to reset computer. Then after a few drive cycles it will "relearn" it's normal idle speed....hopefully.
No other codes and I've sprayed all hoses and intake manifold with carb cleaner. No leaks found. And reset learned values with Snapon versus pro.
Those r@ms have pluntum problems the steel plate warps and leaks oil in into the plentum they make a kit to buy 150$ With a new alunimum plate for it that could be one of the problems you might be haveing?
