Overcharging and blew something

The other night as I was driving my 2000 Dodge Ram my voltmeter jumped to
18 and stayed there, So I took off the negitve cable and minute later the truck
died. I figured the alternater was going bad so I replaced it and the truck still will
not start. checked all the fuses and they are fine but not sure why its not firing
up? any thoughts. The truck will turn over but wont start.

if you pulled the batt. terminal while the truck was running there's no telling what you screwed up , the voltage spike could have been a short or bad regulator in the alt. Test for proper spark and fuel pressure , something else may have gone wrong by pure coincidence

My Husband had plugged a 12v heater in the cigarette lighter and blew the fuse. got to work un plugged everything and now it won't start. turns over like it wants to and can hear the pump working. 4 Answers

truck was running fine. it was after the use of the heater that this happened. it has been 18 degrees here and over a hour way doesn't want to have it towed.
