can you put a 2001 Ignition switch into a 2000

I have a dodge ram 1500 2001 sport that has a blown motor. recently I
recovered a
stolen 2000 dodge ram 1500 have titles to both. the stolen trucks key ignition
was
drilled out and it started with a screwdriver. I have keys for the ignition of the
2001.
I took the ignition out of the 2001 and installed it into the 2000..The .issue
now is
Icant take the key out and it wont shift into gear stays in park. I was told that
the
ignition in both trucks were the same ..is this true or false

From what I'm told the key has a chip that tells a transponder in the column that sends a message to the computer to allow the car to start , I don't know how a screw driver could start the car , that's my understanding of how the system works , auto electrical usually throws me a curve ball .

If you look on Rockauto.com you can see pictures of the ignition switches for the 2000 and 2001 models. They're completely different. Hope that helps! Jim
