Sounds like transmission goes into limp mode, when this happens it will start out in second gear and not shift out of second. Do you have any DTC's? You can cycle key on and off 3 times, and leave on 3rd time and count flashes of check engine light to get codes, if you don't know how to count the flashes there is YouTube videos to explain it. The wrong fluid can also cause the limp mode problem , takes ATF+4 ONLY, good luck let me know what you come up with

My tranny will shift from first to second but not to third. At first it started when cruise set going up hill instead downshifting to third it would go to second and rev hard. Then it just stopped shifting from second to third. But when it's cold it shift just fine it doesn't slip or slam into gear. The fluid level is fine and fairly clean only 40000 on the tranny
