Why wont it start?

01 Dodge Ram 1500- drove 15 minutes with no problem- went to start it after it had sat for
5 minutes truck would not start- it did make a ticking sound that started out loud then got
lower until it stop- exterior and interior lights did not come on- put a new battery in only
the exterior lights worked- still wont start Audrey

The ticking system means your starter isn't receiving enough power to start it. Since you say you put a new battery in it, perhaps the issue is with the cables attatched to the battery
