Battery cable arches when the truck is turned off, battery drains

Asked by Brady0611 Jul 07, 2016 at 01:56 PM about the 2001 Dodge RAM 1500 SLT Quad Cab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2001 Dodge Ram 1500, the battery died but it was a new battery.  Charged
the battery but when hooking up the cable there were a bunch of sparks so
something is shorting out.  What could cause the arch?  Are there any repeat
issues with these trucks that I could start with or how can I trace it down?
Thanks.

I'd go through the battery cables first, make sure all connections are good, cables aren't stretched, terminals, etc.
