2001dodge ram1500 sport just put in rebuilt jasper and it's not catching park

have to slam it into park for it to catch or try and feel for it to catch. all other gears are working fine. replaced it because i lost reverse. looking for ideas or suggestions

Make sure lever on the transmission is tight. These are prone to cracking. SET PARKING BRAKE....slide under vehc. and have someone wiggle shifter between park and rev. and look for play in any parts. Does it want to roll away at times?
