2002 Ram 1500 4.7, Fuel delivery problems
Asked by migration_musicman24... Jan 26, 2016 at 08:55 AM about the 2002 Dodge RAM 1500 SLT Quad Cab RWD
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I recently replaced fuel pump, due to no fuel delivery to engine. The problem
has improved somewhat, but still takes multiple ignition starts, and pressing of
gas pedal. Any suggestions ? Thanks in advance.

Did you also replace fuel filter ? Also check air filter and replace if necessary clean throttle with throttle body cleaner and add seafoam fuel injector cleaner to gas tank.

I wasn't aware of a fuel filter. Someone told me, it was built in to the fuel pump. Where is fuel filter located ? I will clean the throttle body, and add the seafoam fule injector cleaner. Thanks for the info

They are correct no fuel filter on that vehicle only sock filter on fuel pump.

Oh,I'm sorry. I misread...air filter, for fuel filter. I will check air filter. Thanks again.
You need to do a fuel pressure bleed down test by hooking up a fuel pressure gauge, building up pressure on the gauge by cycling the key, and let it set for 3 minutes. If the pressure drops more than 5 lbs. then there is a leak either in the fuel injectors, spider lines, or regulator.

Thanks Rowe, Does a shop, charge much to perform this test ?
I don't know I do everything myself. I wouldn't think so, but I have heard garages charging up to $100. for diagnostics.
Okay, I was able to rent a fuel pressure test kit from the local Auto Parts. How long, am I supposed to leave it pressurized, to determine any leakage ?
In three minutes the pressure should not drop more that 5 lbs. from your highest pressure reading when you turn the key off.
