Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 4.7 liter V-8 had an engine replaced with the same size engine
by the previous owner.  The check engine light is on but my mechanic who is specialized
in repairing trucks said his scanner won't give a reading.  It reads fine on his Durango.  All
my fuses are good.  Any advice?

Sounds like the OBD port is not hooked up, or a wire from or to it broken. Even with no power from car, the batteries in the scanner will supply the power to read fault codes from ECU.

Thank you, I inspected the port and it appears that some of the wires have been jammed into it, however I found a 'cheat', I was able to turn the ignition switch off and on 3 times and the codes were revealed on the odometer. P0202 and P0037. Thanks again for your time.

Cool! Now at least you know what to deal with, if you don't already know this, just Google OBD (the codes) and there are a couple good sites that show cause and solution
