TOTAL SCREWUP!!! That's how you screw-up your truck, swap MTW with GCWR! GCWR is the MAX weight for every thing that is on the truck tires. THAT INCLUDES THE WEIGHT OF THE TRUCK. MTW is the GCWR minus the weight of the truck (usually a safe bet). So, Max Trailer Weight for any Dodge Ram 1500 would be (gets much less as you change bed size, engine, Axle...etc.) 13,500 lb. To answer your Q the Max Trailer Weight for your truck would range between 4500 and 8200 lbs. (need more info to determine) Found webpage here to help out. http://www.new-cars.com/2002/dodge/dodge-ram-1500-specifications.html#trailer

I have a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 quad cab short box with the 5.7 hemi 4x4. pulling a 29 foot fifth wheel it’s weight is 7,500 before loaded. It does struggle a bit in the mountains but stops very good and has plenty of power to pull it. If I had to guess it’s close to 10,000 loaded up with people and camper loaded. I also have headers and a Ram air intake. Makes quite a difference in performance.
Can a magnum v6 pull a 5 wheeler
