My 2003 dodge 4.7 pickup needs 5000rpms to shift into passing gear any thoughts

Sorry I stated 4000rpms earlier by mistake it takes about 5000rpms and the shift at higher gears seems like it takes forever

Don't put off checking this out. Could cause engine or other transmission damage. I did that once - slapped the pedal to the floor, broke a worn timing chain and scattered the engine - my stupidity.
