I was driving and started to hear a loud clicking noise raving with the engine. About a minute later there was a loud pop then the engine died and will not start now. It will turn over but not start.

Asked by Jacob Feb 11, 2014 at 10:12 AM about the 2003 Dodge RAM 1500 ST Quad Cab RWD

Question type: General

When it turns over it sounds normal on the first two
revolution s then like the starter is skipping on the third then
back to the first two and then again on the bad one. What has
happened?

Sounds like the starter motor is going out. My ranger is doing the same thing so I just parked it and I am going to get a new one tonight. They are bout $100 new and about $50 for ones that have been rebuilt.

So it doesn't sound like a threw a rod or a broken timing belt? Thats what I was worried about
