How do I go about changing brakes possibly rotors on a 2005 dodge 1500? Any special tools that i'm going to need? Any information will be helpful.

its the same as changing brake pads and rotors on basically any other vehicle. pull your wheel. pull your caliper and pull the caliper mounting bracket. remove the rotor. and put it back together following the reverse of those directions.

I have a 2004 with with 68k miles on it. I changed the front pads and the rotors were fine. Now the rears on the other hand had some grooves and I took them in to get turned. They looked worse when I went to pick them up, then when I dropped them off. Apparently they pit from the inside out and was I made aware of this before hand. Fortunately, the Oriellys I had it done at applied the $23 turning fee towards new ones that were 30 something each. Also your rear rotors have a drum that houses the parking brake shoes as well. I used my parking brake I would guess 5 times since 2004, and the drivers side shoe was completely gone? Guess they had been adjusted improperly forever? Front pads are also a different part then the rears so make sure you get front pads, rear pads, rear parking shoes and replacement hardware for emergency parking brakes(springs, clips, etc). I would get the rotors turned or replaced if there is grooving or pitting.

Canalbreath, i dont think your problem with the rotors was "pitting from the inside out" i think your problem was the fact that they were $30 dollar rotors. when it comes to brake hardware you really get what you pay for. i only buy the best of the best napa brake products for my 1 ton, i tow daily with it. I bought the truck and immediately trashed the OEM parts and bought the napa premium servere duty pads and rotors. since then 150,000 miles has gone by. ive changed my pads 2 times, and im still on my first set of rotors and will have no problem keeping them for the 3rd pad change.... your always supposed to turn your rotors if your just doing a pad slap because the pads and rotors wear together thats why you get the grooves.... as for your emergency brakes the first time few times you use them, they need to be adjusted to make up for the cables stretching thats why your parking brake shoes were so worn, its a common mistake for alot of people.
