2002 Dodge Ram 2500. Reverse only with 4 wheel engaged

Reverse only works with front wheels engaged. 2 wheel drive in forward is
perfect. Has anyone ever seen this before?

I had replaced the transfer case 30,000 miles ago. When it first happened I thought transmition. Removed pan all seemed right. Replaced filter and fluid. Tried backing off the lift. No joy. For kicks engaged 4 wheel hi. Works great!!! Suspect the transfer case. Now I'm thinking possible rear diff?
