Why will my 2004 Ram 2500 Diesel with auto box not move in reverse?

Asked by deeferdog Nov 07, 2013 at 05:41 PM about the 2004 Dodge RAM 2500

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The vehicle operates normally in forward gears. Has good clean fluids and selects main
gears correctly. However when selecting reverse in any mode of 2 or 4 wheel drive you
can feel the drive bite but the vehicle will not move more than about 1 inch as though it is
locked up. I am suspecting the transfer case as it is extremely hard to shift the selector
and  jams in any mode. It is manual 4wd 2wd hi/lo selection. Clues anyone?

Yes ,I am thinking transfer case, but it is best to have it checked out, by transmission shop
