front end wobble

I Have seen many of the 2003 and up dodge rams with front end wobble when they are traveling at high speeds. I don't know the cause, but i do know it has happened to others

If your truck is a diesel than this is very common and very easy to fix. It is known as the death wobble and it feels as though the truck needs an alignment, but only on certain roads or cambers etc. This is caused in part by the weight of the motor and also by the fact that the front ends of these beasts are full of throw away parts. You fix it by first taking it to a shop that specializes in race car alignments - not just a rack shop - and have them work on getting it right. Next, inspect and replace the sector shaft, the steering box and the front springs and shocks as required. Then purchase and install a DSS or Dodge Steering Stabilizer which holds the frame together and dramatically improves handling. Then look at getting an adjustable track bar, ball joints and tie rod ends all with greaseable zerk fittings. Lastly, you can look at installing what are called Luks Links if you don't have a MOOG track bar and this will also greatly improve the handling.

This is common with the HD Rams. They have just issued a recall for steering parts for the '03 - '08 model years, probably to address this issue. It is recall H46, you can go to the Dodge website under the owners tab to see if your truck is affected. You will need the last eight digits of your serial number to find out the info....

90 percent of the time the track bar needs to be replaced. very easy

That happened with my '98 Dodge Ram (Diesel). My dad and I replaced the track arm and tie rod ends(ball bearings were shot). Make sure to get your front end aligned also. I don't know how similar '98 and '03 would be but thats what was wrong with mine.

Not really an answer but a Statement. I had a 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 Cummins HD 4x4, Until 6/30/2015 I'd just dropped my friend off from work, I wasn't, not 200 yards from his house on a back street in Tennessee and I had heard a Bang and I lost Complete Control of my Steering then I side swiped 2 parked cars. Under further investigation I found the Arm that Goes into the Steering Control Box came Completely out of the Box, Linkage and all. I Do Have A Complete Set of Pictures, of The Issue At Hand. Progressive totaled my Truck which I think is BS, but I'll hopefully get a New truck here soon. I had Fixed The Entire Front End, (Fixed in August 2013) without knowing anything about this steering "Death Wobble". It just happened. The jumping of the Front End and thinking it was the Allingnment, is what I thought. So I checked my front end and the Ball Joints and Tie-Rods were Shot What gets me is that, I could of Killed Myself and/or Another Family, or MAYBE EVEN MY OWN FAMILY. (I HAVE 2 PRECIOUS DAUGHTERS AND A BEAUTIFUL WIFE.) What would happen when theses other People in the World, Go Out And Purchase This Same Vehicle or Similar. Just purchased a 2004 Dodge Ram 2500 4x4 with a cummins. Test drove the truck for two days and had no problems at all.( And I am sure the douch bag I bought her from knew about it.) Today I was driving on my street and hit a lil pot hole and yep you got it the dreaded death wobble..... I have owned Dodge trucks in the past and never herd of anything like this. I get home and type in my trucks info and the word wobble and it brings me here. OMG !! My new truck is my dream truck and I will never part with her. I will have her fixed and report back here with the findings. I must say I have herd no real solutions just folks going back and forth with this and that. I may make my own video. So stay tuned ...

2004 Dodge Ram 2500 Hemi. The fix for my death wobble was to replace the track bar bushings and replaced the steering linkage. 150$ Installed the original steering linkage( not the upgraded kit) The first one lasted 140000 miles so didn't see the sense in spending the money on the upgrade hope this helps

This is not limited to the diesels. 2005 hemi has exact same problem. The real funny one is I had a 1994 2500 gasoline model thaT HAD THE SAME BEHAVIOR BUT ONLY WHEN UNDER AN EIGHTH OF A TANK OF GAS.How is that ? You could not drive the vehicle over 50 mph without violent shaking of the front end. Refuel.... problem solved

Only 1 solution: don't buy a dodge truck! Ours has a horrible death wobble, so bad that it shakes your fillings, contacts, teeth and eyeballs out of your head! It feels like the truck will explode. Absolutely horrible, how can they allow trucks like this on the road? We never, ever will buy a dodge product again. So to get rid of this nuisance trouble....stay away from Dodge trucks!

GuruSTR7T, I want you to do an internet search for "death wobble" and the truck brand of your choice. You'll find this is a function of physics, not a brand of truck. In the future, please research before spreading hate. Life is too short to spend it uninformed and angry.

I replaced everything with heavy duty aftermarket parts. Turns out the points where the track bar connects are made of soft metal and elongate. Dodge is a POS !!!

I have a 2003 dodge ram 2500 hemi. Had new track bar , ball joints, tie rod ends, and new steering stabilizer shock put on and it started the death wobble. So needless to say almost a complete front end later and it's still doing it. We were told by some dodge gurus that I need a special bracket that goes on the frame by the steering box and a special steering box to accommodate the new bracket. They said the frame flexes at the steering box causing the wobble. Its goin back to the shop to have this done hope it works.
