2000 blazer shifting problem
Asked by James Sep 14, 2016 at 08:19 PM about the 2000 Chevrolet Blazer LT 4-Door 4WD
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
so i driving down a dirt road and came to a 4 way and there
was a mud hole on the left so i turned left to spin the rear
of the vehicle threw it and i hit the dirt curb i guess you can
call it and the truck immediately revved so now i when im at
a complete stop i have to start at 1st or 2nd gear and at
25mph i can shift to 3rd gear and at 40mph i can shift to
drive...and when im in drive and push on the gas to much it
just revved untill i let off the gas....the gear in the rear axle
was toast so i got a new rear axle and it's almost ready to
drive again but im pretty sure the shifting will still be
messed up....so what could be the problem? do in need a
tranny rebuild kit? thanks for the help!

When you shift the gears in the truck, its linked to a rod or arm on the transmission on the side of it, it may have slipped or broke, Scotch the wheels before checking this. Have someone run it threw the gears one at a time and verify it is moving correctly with each. This may not be the issue, if there is a neutral safety switch, I would look at it too. The axle broke when you hit the curb?

Otherwise shift solenoids in the trans. When you have the axle put in try it out and see if the trans is slipping. If so check the filter & fluid if its very dirty, change it and then (may need to get a repair book) see if you can test those solenoids while the pan is off. If all those check good and its slipping with new filter & fluid, may be clutches in trans or a torque converter . Drain & save the fluid.
no the axle didn't break just one of the gears inside had teeth broke...i was on a dirt road so the road was lower than the sides
i put phone under there earlier today and recorded that shifter rod moving threw the gears as shifted from park to 1st and back to park and all seemed good

If while driving it slips or not and/or still has the same shift issue After servicing it and testing and/or replacing the sensors/solenoids

Oh if the slipping was the axle or its actually the trans.
