2000 Cavalier will not idle

Asked by Secuzz Jul 31, 2018 at 01:59 PM about the 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier LS Sedan FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

When i turn on my car after work and it would not
start. Pressed on gas and if gas is pressed it will
stay on. If I stopped at a red light and take my foot
off the gas it turns off. Car will not idle. Change the
IAC valve. Vacuum hose without a problem. Took
the vacuum hose off and car runs. Disconnected
battery to reset the computer. Hose reconnected.
Car will not idle without me holding gas. Any
ideas? I have cleaned  throttle body completely. I
have not changed the map sensor. Car braking
without a problem so I don't think it is the booster.

I changed the iac valve and the new iac was faulty . Replaced the iac valve along with the map sensor and new spark plugs. Disconnected the car battery and reset computer. Car began to idle, but idled rough. Every time i turned on the ac, it would get worse. Drove it for 30 miles and engine light turned on. Plug one was misfiring. Changed the spark plugs wires and back to running smooth.
