Question type: Maintenance & Repair

What would have caused my 2000 Chevy
Impala LS to blow the whole top half of the
motor off when the key was turned on and

Yes most definitely. Not at all good and by the sounds of it, that motor is going to need to be replaced.

There are several things that could cause a complete failure, I would just get a new motor

What part of the motor blew off? Can you post a picture?

Top end of the engine is considered the cylinder heads. Unless someone stuffed some explosives in there I doubt they "blew off" what exactly happened to this car?
