without some idea of what you paid for it, how old it is, what the 5K will do for the car and what your plans are for it, no one can give you an intelligent opinion. More information will get you a useful answer.

I bought a "new" 2003 CLK320 with 10,000 miles on it two years ago. It was housed in an A/C garage and only driven once a seek to keep it active. (His wife's car and she came down with cancer and couldn't drive it.) I had the dealer look it over, and was told it was in showroom condition, but needed some attention to the tune of $7,500, dealer estimate. I took it to my mechanic who replaced the engine and transmission mounts, replaced two leaking gaskets, and charged me $235.00. We have enjoyed it a lot. If your car is in pristine condition, and has no or little mechanical issues, keep it and enjoy it. Older cars are to be coddled, and loved. Get two or three estimates on repairs. Dealer, MBZ independent specialist, and a good honest knowledgable trustworthy mechanic. Make your decision from there. Paint will cost more than 5 grand for a good job. Tires can be had for $600.00 and a break job about $4-500 depending on what is necessary. If it is high milage, there may be other items needing attention. Old cars and old wives cost to maintain, but cause less aggravation than new cars or new wives. Your decision. Use your money wisely. $5,000 makes for a nice downpayment, but you then have insurance costs going up, and car payments. (alimony payments last longer).
