My the windshield wipers always stop in a position obstructing my view when I push them down manually and then put the car in gear they automatically go back to that position. What operates the wipers

do you mean they stop in the wrong place when you turn them off? If so, you should be able to adjust them by removing the nut that holds them on. turn the wipers off , there should be a cap over the nut, you might have to remove it with a screwdriver. loosen the nuts and move the wipers into the proper "off" position and then retighten the nut.

Is there an adjustment switch or a switch that the wipers have to strike to have them stop? It may be bad, or the adjustment switch is lose. If that is the case, relocating the wiper arm may cause damage to the wiper, motor and stopping switch. It'd be best to at least ask the service writer if there is an adjustment screw that could be the problem to prevent damage.
