This can be caused by low battery,or your anti theft system in your car, meaning the car does not recaonize the key,

Your key might be worn, try moving it up and down while gently turning.

I had this problem earlier today. After two hours of trying everything I Googled I started checking fuses. There are 3 different fuses that can cause this. The one that was the problem is In the fuse box underneath the hood if standing on driver side looking at the fuse box, it is the top right fuse. Mine had a number 5 on it but I believe the diagram I found online had it numbered 57. While pulling each fuse to see if they were all still good, I pulled this one and it was fine then put it back in. Heard the click in the ignition and it turned right on. So the fuse was just completely plugged in.

I have a 07' E350 and have been searching and searching the web for suggestions. All the posts on here are somewhat old, but I too am having the same issue. I've tried fuses, verifying that the fob was good, to hooking up a pair of jumper cables to it and NOTHING, fob still will not turn in the ignition. While fiddling with EVERYTHING once I got the car to actually start, but like an idiot I turned it off merely to see if it would restart and it did not. Any suggestions?

I have the same problem this morning in my 2001 E320. The remote key unlocked the car, but the key will not turn in the ignition. I jiggled the steering wheel, jiggled the key, checked the fuses, and jumped the battery. Nothing has worked. I talked to an independent shop, and they think the problem may be the ignition switch.

I'd had this problem recently with my 01 E320. I had recently added new batteries and checked and found that when I inserted the battery pack back I did not insert it all the way to click. I removed it and re-inserted it and it has worked ever since. Hope this helps.

I don’t have an answer but I have a similar issue that several are having. One of my key fobs works the locks and trunk but won’t turn on the car. It’s not the car bc my other key fob works fine. I took apart the one that doesn’t work and cleaned the sensor really good and it still doesn’t start the car but does unlock/lock the doors. Any ideas? Thanks
