Mercedes Benz SL500 1995

Asked by Kent Dec 21, 2007 at 02:30 AM about the 1995 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class SL 500

Question type: General

I just purchased a 1995 SL500 from the bank. It was a repo.  While it had no manual in the car, I'm having problems identify certain features.  I don't know what the little plastic features are just below the entrance key hole.  It's Square...red/green... It seems to be some sort of security feature.  Also... How doe's the alarm feature work?  Is it true that this car sold for aprox 94K back in 1995?

I believe Mercedes will send you a manual for free if you write them. I'm pretty sure the red/green lights are to show lock/unlock from afar. Your MSRP is right, this was almost a $100k car back in the day.

All manual and service books are available as a free download from http://www.mbusa.com/mercedes/service_and_parts/owners_manuals . As for getting a free printed manual from Mercedes - I have not had any luck with that one.

The red light is a signal that it is locked, the green light is a signal that the car is open and unlocked. The alarm features will show you just how loud it is if you put the top down, lock the car and then try to open the compartment there in the car that self locks when you use the key to lock the door. once the alarm goes off, you will need the key to unlock it and relock the vehicle or the alarm will continue to sound for hours. it is a loud horn sound that you cannot miss.
