1996 Merfcedes 320 sl. Transmission problems. Seems to shift fine a little stiff but ok. When you put in reverse if on an incline car will not move. Revs but will not move. Works fine on flat surface any solutions?

go for a system flush and fluid change with new pan gasket (so we can look at what is stuck to the magnet in there) and filter~ get-er runnin' smooth instead of mucked up with 14 years of useage~

see transmission fluid is NOT a lubricant...per se, but a controlled friction liquid...so if it breaks down to oils and "stuff"...sometimes will burn and make the fluid NOT red, but brown and burnt...you hadn't mentioned the condition and level...always check with the parking brake set in park...level hot will be on the top mark...cold will be at the lower hash-mark~ please be cheery red~

that whole "incline" gig tells me the level is tragically LOW...take a look at the connection to the radiator (tranny cooler part) to see if the rubber hoses are drippin' at all~
Wow roy well done. Sounds like your transmission oil is low. Like the man said, might as wel. Get the gear box serviced.
