How do you change the timing belt?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
Car died while driving. Replaced battery and ignition coil. Tries to start but won't, getting good spark and gas. Was told could be the timing belt. Is this something that should be done by a garage or can it be done by someone with quite a bit of experience working on cars.
