Is there a good way to locate a short in the electrical system of my car? It keeps blowing a fuse, which controls the instument panel.

I will try that. I did have an aftermarket stereo installed many years ago, w/o any problem until now, within the last week. I did install a new starter, and all was fine until now.

Js08016---turns out the short was in the backup light switch. I hadn't noticed before that the instrument panel stopped working when I would put the car in reverse--until today. Happened to be looking at the panel and noticed the correlation. Fuses are cheap, so i repeated the process twice more, same result. Disconnected the switch, put in a new fuse, tranny in reverse several times-- BAM!! No more blown fuse.
