Question type: Maintenance & Repair
My car refuses to start after it rains
1 Answer
I fought this problem and won! Next time the van will not start due to rain try pulling off the dog house and pop off the distributor cap (there is no need to disconnect the plug wires). Blow a hair dryer inside the distributor for a few minutes; say 3-5 minutes. Replace the cap and attempt to start the vehicle. If it starts you most likely need to replace the distributor cap. If it does not start try drying off the coil with the same hair dryer. If it starts after drying the coil area then consider replacing the coil before the next bout of wet weather. As a temporary fix try attaching an auxiliary ground wire from the coil bracket to the engine block. Your coil may be shorting out due to moisture. FYI: There is a good You Tube video that explains the ground wire procedure described above.
