If yo have stock lights you wont be able to change the bulbs unless you have a aftermarket housing

BTW. be sure to check if where ever you are that aftermarket HID's are legal or illegal

Hid kits are illegal because they don't meet DOT regulations which apply to all states.

Get on Ebay. you an find a whole plug & play kit (with or w/o angel eyes) for under $100. as long that they meet &/or exceed DOT requirements they are NOT ilegal in any shape or form. the most popular kind of HID is the 800 Kelvin or light blue. is also the safest one.///

Any hid kit will not be DOT approved. If it say it is DOT approved then they are not real hids but h4 or 9006 xenon bulbs, like the Halo kits on ebay. A true HID kit will not be DOT and are " intended for racing and off-road vehicles only".

Ive already replied to similar topics but ill do it again. ive done some research and all aftermarket HID kits are ILLEGAL. with that said OEM HID assemblies are NOT illegal. so if your cars year and model came available with HIDs as an option you should be able to buy some OEM assemblies and install them in your car. if it wasnt an available option youre only going to get illegal kits.

Where does it say that you can legally install hid's in a car didn't come with them from the factory?

From what I've read the only thing that makes aftermarket kits illegal is there housings can't control the light and it's blinding other drivers. The oem housings do and pass dot regualtions? I'm not positive though. It's just my deduction from what i've read

The housings are a big reason but there are other things like wiring requirements and auto leveling systems. Basically no car can have hid's install unless it came with them. The DOT doesn't want incredibly bright headlight installed improperly regardless of whether it is oem or not.

Let's say they are illegal. So are aftermarket exhaust systems. But police don't regulate it hardly at all if it's done properly. It's sort of just pushed under the rug.

Aftermarket exhaust aren't always illegal, only when they don't meet sound regulations or eliminate emission controls do they become illegal . I understand where your coming from though. You could get away with it in some areas if you don't go too bright and actual do a good install.
