Overheating, radiator fan is direct r

Someone has the radiator fan hooked to
battery. Car was overheating switch on
therm housing replaced with thermostat.
When connected rad fan stops. Need to fix
this problem any ideas

If the thermostat was installed upside down, it might cause overheating.
