bmw X5 E53 will not restart after the interior rear boot switch has been used!

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Last night a breakdown service was called & accidentally the key fob switch was touched
& the boot closed - it all worked fine!
Keen to replicate the fault this morning we touched the interior boot switch & hey presto it
won't start.
However we can not get it to work. Used car before trying to replicate = fine. How does the
interior boot switch immobilise the car? (so i can get it going)?!

It works. From other forums tried the master key. Unlocked car with master key, opened door...car started beeping, used normal key fob to override. inserted normal key engine cranked but nothing. removed key, locked car with me still inside popped key in and it fired up. Turned it off, unlocked car and now everything is fine. Still no idea whats up or even how its been corrected! Difficult to trust car.
